The tour starts at 10am at the local traditional fresh market to discover some fresh local ingredients, seasonal fruits and vegetables. You will learn how the locals buy their food here.

After the tour at the market, you will be transferred back to the workshop. You will learn how to cook 3 Thai dishes based on your menu selection (nearly 200 dishes available !). Most of our recipes can be accommodated for special diets (vegetarian, no gluten). Please check and confirm with us prior to your cooking class. This small-group class cater for a maximum of 8 people and you can bring your kids along but they can’t follow the course if they are under the age of 8. You will get to taste your own cooking with your choice of beverages. Kindly note we teach 3 dishes/pair, not 3 dishes/person. The workshop will finish between 2:00 and 2:30 pm. Cooking class and lunch take place in a fully air-conditioned Thai traditional summer house, surrounded by an organic garden.

What Are Some Staples of Thai Cuisine?

Thai food has an incredibly rich history. There are subtle variations based upon region, but for the most part, the lists below are representative of what you will find when you vacation or visit a local market in Thailand.

Staple Ingredients

Staple ingredients in the Thai culinary world include the following:

  • Insects such as termites, ant eggs, bee larvae, grasshoppers and silkworm
  • Meats, including beef, pork, duck and chicken
  • Sauces, which include shrimp paste, fish sauce, chili paste, soy sauce and curry paste
  • Leaves, local herbs and spices such as Thai basil, Kefir lime leaves, banana leaves and flowers, coriander leaves and roots, turmeric, ginger, fingerroot, lemon basil, five-spice powder and peppercorns
  • Vegetables, which include Chinese broccoli (khana), eggplant, bamboo shoots, bean sprouts, Chinese cabbage, tomatoes, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, corn, squash and many varieties of mushrooms.
  • Fruits, including papaya, mango, jackfruit, durian, longan, mangosteen, langsat and rose apples
  • Noodles
  • Rice
